Hello stranger,
In this page you have access to a small portion of my photography. Light against time is the metaphor I use to visually (and perhaps mentally) express my delight concerning photography and of course, the immense fascination of fragmenting instants of time into image.
For a few time now I've been working closely with image-related business, not only professionally but also as a freelancer doing small assignments or compiling material for future projects. Since most of the times all these images get lost somewhere in Cd-roms and back-ups I've decided to start building this on-line album in which you are now dwelling. The reasons for doing this are quite simple: getting to know my skills as a photographer - find new projects - and also for myself (as a personal use) to remember what I've done, because to be honest working with digital cameras these days is like trying to remember what you had for dinner last night.
Anyway, taking photos is a major interest for me, not only when it comes to work motives but most of the times (and maybe the best-resulting ones) when it comes to compose a specific atmosphere or simply encounter myself in a place with many possibilities and different approaches. Shooting with my camera(s) is like going for an adventure, in a way it's like playing a game trying to find the best situation and the most favourable position to capture. On the other hand, photography has changed the way I see the world and furthermore contributed to an enlargement of my perception capacities.
When it comes to live pictures - concerts, that is - (such as it is the case of most of my current works), it tends to get a bit boring after a while, and it's difficult to come up with original ideas, it gets easier if you actually know the band/artists in question and how they are as persons because you'll find a way of capturing their expressions, otherwise you're knowing the band at the exact moment you're shooting them, sometimes even afterwards. In either ways, it's always a thrill to stand in front of acclaimed artists.
Conceptual photos are what I like to do best. It gives me time to think about the place, the people, the objects or whatever I'm going to cover. Then it's just a matter of trying to get into the mood of the picture, set the lights (among other details), and find as many angles and perspectives as possible. Something good will appear (sometimes it takes a while), and from that reference-point other ideas will suddenly start to gain shape. I consider the art of photography just like a chain of thoughts, it's a net with many different paths: some will lead to interesting places and nice results, while others won't. What really matter is that they all count as profitable experience(s) at the end.
Working with people (models, etc), is also fascinating. Although I'm not exactly the best person to give directions (and this happens very little times), I like to explore the body in interaction with the set/place and as time goes by it's natural that things start getting a bit more reliable and faster. I have many ideas on how to work with models or strangers, let's just see if things work the way I planned.
As for now, this is it. I hope you enjoy what I've prepared, things will gradually come-up and my contributions will grow-up as time passes by. Any comments, suggestions or requests should be sent to my personal email.
NOTE: Most of the pictures on this page did NOT suffer any sort of graphic manipulation, they were arranged and fixed to look better and to surpass any incapacity in terms of technology or equipment, however have in mind they were chosen among many others belonging to each particular group and for standing out for themselves (artistically & visually), once passing through that selective filter they were submitted here for the pleasure of the viewer.
Thank you for your time & interest,
Nuno Moreira
